Why choose Awakened Lotus for Massage Therapy?

If you are looking for a kind, compassionate, empathetic, knowledgable, professional, and non-judgmental therapist, then we might just be suitable for you! Awakened Lotus is a private massage studio where you can feel safe, listened to, respected, and supported. 
Massage heals on more levels than just the physical and finding the right therapist to suit you and your needs is important. The touch received during massage is healing for mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical concerns. 
Scientific evidence has proven that massage therapy reduces anxiety and depression. Other evidence shows that massage also aids to reduce muscular pain, improve sleep, boost the immune system, increase blood flow and circulation, relieve headaches, support people undergoing treatment for cancer, and also supports pregnant women for pain relief, stress, and depression.


What to expect at an appointment? 

An appointment generally includes:
Consultation - to discuss your complaint, issue, or concern and what you hope to achieve
Assessment - by observing your posture and body mechanics, our therapist is able to target areas of imbalance and work towards correcting postural issues whilst relieving tension, aches and pain in the body
Massage - Techniques will vary from client to client. Our therapist generally blends a relaxing and nurturing flow with deeper work, which allows tight muscles and connective tissue to release comfortably. If you have a preference in pressure, please let us know. Our therapist is compassionate and empathetic and adjusts the treatment so it is both relaxing and remedial in nature.
After your massage: Post massage discussion plus a hot towel, herbal tea, and a few minutes to relax before stepping out.
An appropriate treatment plan will be tailored specifically to you and your needs. This may require a follow up appointment in 1-4 weeks time. You may also be given some exercises to do at home that will continue to support you and your body. Your therapist will discuss this with your during your appointment. 


How do I make the most out of my appointment?

We ask our clients to think of why they have booked their appointment. What is your intention or concern? What do you aim to work on or towards? When we have clear goals we can then actively work towards them. 
If you are having trouble switching off, try bringing your full awareness to your body and your breath. Slow your breath and allow yourself to sigh on the out breath. We love it when you give us feedback through noise (sighs, ahh's, or ouch's). Slowing the breath allows you to connect with your body. It helps calm your mind and creates a space for deep healing to occur. 
Emotions may also arise during your massage. This is a normal occurrence and we invite you to release any emotions that surface. No judgement here! Just freedom of expression! 


What if I feel uncomfortable during my massage?

If there is something that is making you feel uncomfortable we encourage you to speak up and let your therapist know. Speaking up in itself can be a big part of people's healing progress. We are happy to adjust the music, massage table, pillows, room temperature, massage technique or pressure at any time to suit your comfort.
 


What to expect after my appointment?

After your massage, you should expect to feel relaxed. If your therapist has administered some deeper work or trigger point therapy, you may feel sore in those targeted areas after your massage. Other normal responses that people experience after a massage are feelings of being energised, a sense of clarity, or even tiredness from being so deeply relaxed. If you do have any concerns or questions, please let us know.  Your happiness and health is of the utmost important to us and we appreciate open and honest communication. 
Also, remember to rehydrate after your appointment by increasing your water intake. We also highly recommend enjoying the relaxed state you are in for as long as you can before reconnecting with technology and the busy-ness of everyday life. We suggest going for a light walk or taking a moment in nature. 


This is hard to determine without getting to know you and your reason for making an appointment first. 

Some people gain amazing benefits from their first session, while others take more time to relax, settle in, and fully receive the treatment. We have found that when clients receive regular massages they gain the best results. Over time you also gain trust and build a relationship with your therapist, which allows you to relax and receive more deeply. 

The number of visits vary from client to client and situation to situation. Our clients generally get the results they seek from 1-4 sessions. Depending on what results you desire, we may suggest a once-off visit, weekly, fortnightly, or monthly appointments.

How many appointments will I need?


When shouldn't I book myself in for a massage?

There are certain contra-indications (a reason to withhold a certain medical treatment due to the harm that it would cause the client) for receiving a massage treatment.
These include: 
- those suffering from contagious viruses or diseases such as a cold or flu or showing symptoms such as a fever
- those under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- contagious skin diseases such as impetigo, tinea (athlete's foot), ring worm, scabies

Care will be taken and certain areas may be avoided with the following: 
- pregnancy (doctor clearance is advised within the first trimester)
- varicose veins and deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- bruising, cuts, abrasions, lesions, burns, or sunburn (these areas can be avoided)
- inflammation and arthritis (doctor clearance is advised)
- oedema (fluid retention)
- cancer patient (doctor clearance is advised)
- epilepsy (doctor clearance is advised)
- psoriasis and eczema
- high blood pressure and cardio-vascular conditions


What if I can't make my appointment? 
 

Awakened Lotus operates under a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. Upon making an appointment, you are committing to yourself and are agreeing to this policy and its conditions. If your booking is cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours of your appointment booking time, you agree to be charged a cancellation fee of 100% of the full appointment cost. Payment will be processed over the phone via EFTPOS or in person prior to your next appointment. 


Is there free parking?

 

Yes, there is free parking available on the premises and within a few minutes walking distance. We are located on a busy main road, so take your time to find us. Alternate parking is available on Fraser road or Dovedale Crescent.


Do you have EFTPOS facilities? 

Yes, we have EFTPOS facilities. This is our preferred method of payment. Cash is not left on the premises. 


Do you have disability access?

Our premises unfortunately do not cater for disability access due to a number of stairs. This is something that we aim to provide in the foreseeable future.
We do however proudly support and welcome people of all cultures and beliefs and those with special needs. 


Can I claim with my health fund?

Yes, you can claim on the spot with eligible health fund providers for remedial massage therapy.
